Canadians are, in general, a fairly modest, self-effacing people. Sure, they're (justifiably!) proud of their healthcare system, and they'll admit to being polite, but when the subject of my moving there has come up among Canadians I'm meeting for the first time, I am often asked, "Why?!" in an incredulous tone of voice.
Canada has as rich a culture as any other nation on Earth, but there's no name for people like me. Anglophiles, Germanophiles, Japanophiles... all perfectly normal. There is such a word as Canadophile, but my dictionary tells me it's "rarely used". A BC friend has termed me a "Leafaboo". "Fanada" seems backwards. In the end, I find that I prefer "Canucklehead".
